Man charged with burglary, robbery, assault, domestic violence | Crime
Sheriff Ana Franklin of Morgan County Sheriff’s Department reported that a man was arrested late last night and charged with burglary, robbery, assault and domestic violence.
Deputies responded to a call for help on Gum Springs Cut Off in Hartselle around 7:53 p.m. Tuesday night. Upon arrival, deputies said they talked with Vickie Faulkner, 49, who told them that Channing McClung, 28, had come over uninvited and intoxicated and was in her house, armed with a handgun.
Deputies said they entered and cleared the residence, which had evidence of violence, including what appeared to be blood on a couch. Authorities said they found McClung and detained him, finding two cell phones and a .25 caliber handgun on him.
An investigator said he determined that McClung was the ex-boyfriend of Faulkner’s daughter and was upset over their break-up. Deputies said Faulkner’s daughter, her daughter’s 7-year-old child and Faulkner’s boyfriend, Jesse Lott, were all at the house. Authorities said McClung was verbally and physically abusive, threatening the adults and preventing Faulkner from calling 911 by taking her cell phone away. Deputies said when Faulkner tried to arm herself, McClung took the pistol, pointed it at Lott and demanded his cell phone, striking Lott on the head several times with the gun after he didn’t respond quickly enough.
Deputies said Faulkner’s daughter escaped and called 911 from a neighbor’s house.
Authorities said Lott refused medical treatment. McClung is currently incarcerated in the Morgan County Jail. His bond has not been set yet.
